Consisting of students from the ETH Zurich and other Swiss universities, the Swissloop team is participating in the Hyperloop Pod Competition 2018 organized by SpaceX, where teams from universities from all over the world compete in building and designing the best transportation pod for the Hyperloop. SpaceX’s ambition is to connect cities through extremly high-speed transportation, reducing travel effort to a minimum and all this without polluting our planet.

The aim of this competition is to accelerate the development of the pods for this new high-speed mode of transport: the Hyperloop. The Hyperloop concept combines magnetic levitation train – the pod – and a low-pressure transit tube. The focus of this year’s competition is maximum self-propelled speed. The competition will take place on July 22, 2018.

How Schindler supports the Swissloop

Schindler sponsors the project to support their commitment to developing young people's skills in a future-oriented mobility solution. As part of the project, the Schindler Vocational Training has produced almost 200 molded pieces for the current project, which together almost complete the pod. A few weeks ago, members of the Swissloop team visited Schindler in Ebikon and witnessed the production of the first parts of their new pod.

One of the Schindler apprentices collaborating on the project is Timo Lindegger, who is molding the biggest piece for the pod, an aluminum rim. This rim will not only be a part of the Swissloop pod, but is also his final task as an apprentice in polymechanics. Schindler wishes Timo success in both!
